Freightex is doing all it can to minimise disruption caused by Calais delays
Oct 15th, 2015
The press are obviously bored of covering the ‘new normal’ in Calais. This week has seen multiple problems in the tunnel with long closures during the night and into the mornings as well as strikes from port staff which have resulted in chaos and queues into Calais. No UK broadcasters and only one national newspaper has covered any of this as far as we can see. We support industry associations who are trying to get media attention and who are lobbying the authorities on various fronts to help freight flow more smoothly.
Meanwhile we would like to reassure our customers that we are working flat out to mitigate any delays caused by this disruption. There are inevitable truck cancellations when vehicles are held up in the port with a previous delivery or when delays cause drivers to go over their legal hours. We will always communicate with customers as quickly and clearly as possible if their collection or delivery is delayed. We are now looking at contingencies for every load we book so that we have solutions in the event of delays and/or cancellations. However, please understand that even Plan B won’t always go as planned with capacity across the Channel so squeezed. Many thanks to all our business partners for bearing with us at this frustrating time. Please follow us on Twitter for latest updates on channel crossings and live traffic information from drivers.
