Strike at Calais Port and disrupted service at Eurotunnel
Oct 13th, 2015
The day started with industrial action by the cargo/ freight control officers at Calais Port. The main approach road to the Port had been closed by French authorities and no freight was entering the Port. No trucks were being checked in because there was nobody to process the vehicles on arrival. There are hundreds of trucks there, the East Port is full, and trailers are being parked in the Hoverport. Long queues on the motorway. French newspaper "La Voix du Nord de Calais" says that over fifty angry foreign truck drivers left the A16 and were heading towards the sub-prefecture of Calais to demonstrate. Traffic in the city center was obviously very disrupted.
The people that are on strike are now refusing to tie on the arriving ferries... Eurotunnel has 3 trains per hour now and they were admitting to 6 hours getting out of UK and 8 hours coming back, from joining the queue to arrival at the other end.
Unfortunately this strike and the disrupted service from Eurotunnel will be a real headache for drivers today and many loads will be late for their deliveries into the UK. We will keep all our business partners updated with news as and when we hear it, check our twitter account for the latest.
