Freightex’s delivery performance not affected by issues at Calais
Sep 6th, 2016
We want to reassure our customers that our on-time delivery statistics have not been affected with the various issues in Calais in recent weeks.
Of note recently was the ‘escargot convoi’ where slow-moving trucks and agricultural vehicles blocked the autoroute between Dunkerque and Calais. We were able to plan contingencies well in advance of the disruption and once it was underway we could advise our sub-contractors of what was happening on the ground.
Earlier in the summer there was a huge backlog into Dover port as additional security checks were introduced on the busiest weekend of the year. Again, our customers’ deliveries were hardly affected as we managed drivers hours and prioritised the most urgent loads. We also used some inside knowledge to beat the queues!
CEO Tim Phillips said: “85% of freight coming in and out of the UK by road passes through Dover and re-routing trailers via other ports is not always viable or helpful in saving time. However our team is ahead of the game in anticipating problems and managing flows to prioritise the most time-critical. I am proud of the team who rise to the challenge when port conditions are tricky.”
